Do You Know How to Stop?

I remember when I used to ski. I’d be fine as long as I was arc-ing down the hill. The only time I had trouble was when I tried to slow down. Or worse, stop. That’s when something would catch, balance wouldn’t recover, and over I’d go. The worst was when I’d be standing in the lift line… just standin’ there, and ooo wooop, crash. Just fall over. It’s been pretty much the same on the motorcycle. When I’m goin’, I’m fine. It’s when I want to stop that something catches, and over the bike goes. Friday morning – another clear and beautiful day, just a little chilly at this altitude so early. I visited with other guests about fishing on the river, and the resident dachshund about the merits of under-collar scratching. I returned to my room to do a couple more hours of work while waiting for the world to warm up a bit. I could feel my attention wanting to turn inward. I don’t know what I’m doing

So much adventure arises from the gap – between where we’re headed and what we don’t know along the way. Writing about the challenge of being a motorcycle newbie on a 2500 mile tour is an obvious adventure tale. And developing this blog is no different. There’s an idea on the horizon of where it’s headed, what it might look like. I haven’t already lived it, so I’m content to let it unfold.
